Intended recipient says if courier firm had admitted problem early, card misuse might have been prevented

A courier consignment containing Rs 600 in cash and a SIM card sent from Mysore to Bangalore has gone missing after reaching the courier firm's Bangalore office.

But the bigger problem is that someone was using the SIM card even as the intended recipient kept waiting for the parcel.

As a SIM card can be misused by criminals, the intended recipient, B Satish, blocked the card upon learning from the mobile service provider that the card was in use.

"I was told by my sister that the packet has been sent through the courier on January 13. I was waiting for it but it didn't reach me even after 3-4 days.

Later I gave a call to the Guttahalli branch office and they informed me to wait for a day to give me the update.

Later they told me to contact their head office which is in Mission Road.

When I contacted their head office one of the customer care executives confirmed that the packet has been received by them, but they were not sure what happened next," said Satish.

Satish said the courier company should have admitted to having misplaced the parcel much earlier so that the SIM card misuse could have been prevented.

Made to run around

"The courier people made me run from pillar to post for a couple of days and every day I used to make at least twenty calls to get the details of my courier.

Finally, yesterday when I contacted one of their customer care executive at head office, they agreed that they have misplaced the packet and they agreed that they will bear the SIM card cost," said Satish.

"After knowing the packet is lost I just tried calling to that number I was shocked to know that the SIM is in use. I was scared and thought that the SIM could be misused by someone else and I immediately blocked it."

Shanth Kumar, customer care executive of Professional Couriers, said, "I will look into this and talk to my senior officers and get back to you.

Usually, when the documents are misplaced by the company we will bear the cost but I don't know the procedure when the SIM is lost. Give us a day's time we will get back to you."

P Umesh, Manager, Customer Care, Professional Couriers, didn't respond to repeated calls on his mobile.
