Bangalore University registrar Sanjay Vir Singh goes scot free despite his triple role, thanks to the protection of BJP national president Rajnath Singh.




MiD DAY had published a series of reports on the issue.

"Following media reports, the higher education ministry had decided to transfer Sanjay Vir Singh," said a source atu00a0 the university. "But his proximity to Rajnath Singh protected him."

The government had planned to transfer Sanjay Vir Singh, an IPS officer, to the home department as punishment.u00a0 But Singh managed to stay on due to political backing. University sources said he claimed to be Rajnath Singh's relative.

"I can do so many things in the police department," said Singh. "But in the university, I can take care of students. There are over a lakh students here and it is important for me to serve. I prefer this to any other job."

Wrong guy

Interestingly, C S Suranjan, who was the higher education secretary when reports on Sanjay Vir Singh were published, has been transferred without a posting.

But Suranjan said it was a "normal course of action". "They have transferred me and I am waiting for the posting."

Playing safe
Aravind Limbavali, minister for higher education,
declined to comment on the 'sensitive' issue. "We have taken note of it and we cannot share the information with you."

Dr A N Prabhudeva, vice chancellor of Bangalore University, said: "I have just come in and am yet to pick up the threads. Give me some time and I will get back to you."
