Thane: Social worker and local NCP leader Ashok Pohekar died of a massive heart attack in Thane on late Wednesday night. He was 58.

According to family sources, Pohekar was returning home from BKC after a function and enroute felt uneasy. Even before being hospitalised in Thane, he collapsed at about 9 pm and passed away.
Pohekar was former Chairman of Thane District Cooperative Bank. He also served as Chairman of the Navi Mumbai Transport Committee.
A close confidante of NCP leader and former Cabinet Minister Ganesh Naik, Pohekar was an ardent theatre lover and was also associated with production of dramas.
Born on December 22, 1957, Pohekar is survived by wife and a son. His funeral was largely attended by politicians and theatre personalities apart from family and friends.
