Two years after a policeman's bag containing his service revolver was stolen in Hyderabad, sleuths from the anti-dacoity cell (ADC) on Saturday have arrested two city residents for the crime.
During interrogation, the police learned that the gun was stolen from a Hyderabad police officer in 2010, who is now retired from service. The two accused identified as Naeem Abdul Ansari (25), and Aftab Aziz Ansar (40),are residents of Wagholi, but hail from Uttar Pradesh.u00a0

“We received information that Naeem had planned to sell the firearm to a buyer near the Sangamwadi Bridge on January 5, and laid a trap and arrested him. During questioning, he revealed his accomplice Aftab’s name,” said Satish Gowekar, police inspector of the ADC. “After sustained interrogations, Aftab said that he had gone to Hyderabad and while travelling on a bus, he had stolen a bag of a fellow passenger, which had a revolver inside.
” Aftab then handed over the revolver to Naeem and asked him to keep it safe. “The duo used to work at a bakery, but after facing a cash crunch they started lifting bags of passengers from various bus stands and public places,” said Gowekar.
After inquiring with their counterparts in Hyderabad, the city police zeroed in on a police station where a police officer named Reddy had registered a complaint that his service revolver was stolen from a bus, while he was on his way to work. u00a0u00a0
