BBMP commissioner Meena believes a picture's worth a thousand words; wants officials to show progress of developmental works on camera

A BBMP official's word will no longer hold good. With Bharat Lal Meena back at the helm, officials will have to show photographic evidence of progress on civic works.

Meena had started the initiative when he was acting Brahut Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) commissioner last December. Photos captured during his inspection were put on the display board at the BBMP office. A week later, officials had to display photos of the same spots and invited punishment if they failed to act within a deadline.

Deadlines!

Meena's now setting deadlines again for various works after his inspection on Tuesday when he visited the underpass work at J P Nagar and Ramaiah Layout and Vijaya Bank Layout where stormwater drains are being remodelled.

"He has directed officials to complete delayed works within a given deadline," said Dr S Khandre, public relations officer, BBMP. "The method is result-oriented."

"His style of functioning is the same as when he was BBMP in-charge commissioner," said Khandre. "Officials will have to prove their efficiency with evidence supporting them rather than words."

The method is well appreciated. "Only such initiatives can bring change," said Captain Raja Rao, infrastructure expert and former chairman of a committee on roads, appointed by the high court. "Such initiatives address infrastructure issues immediately. This is the need of the hour," he said.
