She had pneumonia, was obese and developed a clot in her lungs. And she still survived the dreaded flu

Au00a0swine flu patient in a Bangalore hospital is ready to return home, having beaten the virus hollow. Doctors treating her say they had to deal with numerous difficulties but her will to survive made it easier.

The woman, suffering from pneumonia, was admitted to the Bangalore Hospital, Southend Circle. "We suspected she was infected with swine flu and immediately treated her with Tamiflu," says Dr C Munichoodappa who treated her.

The swab test was done and sent but the doctor did not wait for the results. Their suspicions turned out to be right.

Apart from the flu, there were other complications. She was obese. And while treating her, a clot developed in the lungs. "We had to manage this by putting her in a non-invasive ventilator," he said.u00a0

u00a0"Timely suspicion and treatment with Tamiflu and the use of antibiotics helped in the end," Dr Munichoodappa said, adding, "She did need half a litre of oxygen while walking but not for long."

When approached for this story, the patient's family refused to allow her to be photographed.
