The police say the victim was consuming liquor with his friends on a terrace. On seeing the policemen, he jumped to his death

Family members of a Class XI student, who was allegedly beaten brutally by police officials on September 3, staged a protest in the area today and blocked the main road for hours. They were demanding the arrest of the accused cops. The victim, Amar Singh, breathed his last in a hospital on Saturday.


Suspense remains: The victim, Amar Singh, died on Saturday.

High-handedness?
The incident was reported from the Ambedkar Nagar area of south-east Delhi on Saturday. According to family members, Amar was on his way to home with friends from his tuition when he was stopped by some police officials. They then took all the students to the local police station on the pretext of interrogation in some case. "They thrashed our son brutally inside the police station. We came to know about the incident from one of his friends," said Phool Singh, Amar's father.u00a0

He said Amar's legs were fractured. He was rushed to the nearby government hospital, and as his condition improved, he was referred to a private hospital. His health, however, suddenly took a turn for the worse and he died.

Quest for justice
"We want justice and proper action against the accused police officials who took our child away from us, said Kailash, Amar's uncle. A police official, on the condition of anonymity, said, "There is no involvement of police in the case. The boys were consuming liquor on the terrace of a building and when the police tried to stop them, Amar jumped from there."
