Pink is fast becoming the colour of women emancipation. Pink chaddis gave it back to Right wing women-bashers, pink sarees brought the Bundelkhand drought issue to the streets of the national capital and now pink literature will take up the pending cases of sexual harassment in Delhi University.

The campaign by Delhi University Student's Union (DUSU) has been welcomed by students of the varsity and they believe that not only will it help in resolving the existing cases but also keep a tab on those intending to make the "wrong move".

On Wednesday, DUSU launched the initiative that is aimed at taking up each case of sexual harassment on its merit and helping the authorities in resolving it in a time-bound manner. Initially, the complaints of research students will be taken up but depending on the progress made with them, DUSU will address pleas by undergraduate students too. The student's body has prepared a committee which will talk to individual complainants and see how and why the probe into the matter has been delayed.

DUSU President Manoj Choudhary said, "After MiD DAY published the story regarding the initiative, we have been getting very good response from students. A lot of girl students have been calling up our office to congratulate and extend their cooperation for Operation Pink Literature."

The first case that the committee plans to take up is of Professor Vidyut Chakravarty, who was removed as the head of Political Science department and dean of faculty of Social Science in 2007 after a female colleague from his department alleged sexual harassment.

However, the court acquitted him but his position was not restored.

Not only girls but male students have also extended their support to DUSU's initiative. "I think this operation must also cover daily harassment cases on the campus. There are CCTV cameras but they hardly help in curbing sexual harassment," said Vinay Kumar, a Final Year student of Hansraj College.

"I wish all the best to the teachers and students against whom cases are pending. I hope the truth will be revealed in all the cases soon," said Vishal Agnihotri from Ramjas College.

Aditi Saxena, pursuing her Masters in Sociology, said, "We are sexually harassed in some form or the other but most girls prefer to remain silent. It is also seen that the professor against whom such charges have been levied, continues his work uninterrupted."

Echoing Aditi's sentiments, her classmate Rashi Bhatnagar said, "The only problem with such operations is that they start with a bang but die without a whimper. Only after six months one can decide whether the drive will be successful or not.

Overall, this can be a path-breaking initiative in the history of Delhi University. Most of the cases which have been grounded for years will come up and the accused will be penalised."
