Would you ever want to lunch in an elevator? That's a strange question, you might say. Well, if you knew that the said elevator offered a tasty selection of desserts that were guaranteed to blow you away, you would stay, right?
We felt like we were in an elevator when we entered Herbs & Spice at The Collection at UB City. If you've heard the name before, you might have visited their on 80ft Road branch at Indiranagar.

This eatery however, doesn't have the warm ambience of the restaurant and to be honest, resembles an airport caf ufffd type with the high-pitched elevator music to match.
Located on the second floor of the retail outlet, Herbs & Spice serves as an interim coffee and cake or a feeding station for the avid shopper.
We started with a version of the Pears, Walnut, Lettuce and Parmesan Salad (Rs 150) that looked fresh and delectable but was overpowered by the strong vinaigrette dressing that waterlogged the lettuce and blemished the flavour of the parmesan.
Accompanying the salad were the Panko Crumbed Prawns (Rs 250), prawns crumb fried and served with mayonnaise. The prawns were quite tough and chewy and even the crunchy batter couldn't save it.
The Chicken Penne pasta with mushroom and sundried tomato (Rs 310) was cooked al dente and the sprinkling of parmesan brought out the taste of herbs and spices (pardon the pun!) rather well.
If you are a passionate pasta eater and want to give it a shot, I would recommend it if you had completed your day and was heading home for a siesta as this dish will make any energetic go-getter feel lethargic.

By now, with my tummy bulging against my jeans button, I turned my attention to the recommended desserts on offer.
Desserts and baked treats are clearly the expertise of Herbs & Spice. The Sticky Toffee Pudding (Rs 150) was moist, spicy and soft to eat although we could have used some extra caramel sauce.

The piece de resistance came from the Walnut Meringue (Rs 150) that was amazingly crunchy, fluffy and nutty (at the same time) that melted in our mouth leaving a sweet burst of walnut essence and was soothed with a side of cream. This dessert will dumbfound even the most discerning diner; it was truly remarkable, albeit quite sweet.
Our Verdict: The actual meals were fine to eat for a lunch and acceptable in price. If you found yourself in the middle of a hustle-bustle shopping day with a growling stomach and an "anything will do" attitude, you will be satiated here.
For those of us with a sweet-tooth and no regard on how or where we get our next hit, you absolutely must include Herbs & Spices Walnut Meringue to your repertoire, regardless of that strange elevator feeling.
