The play is the maiden product of The Amateurs Performers Bureau (APB), which was established with the objective of providing a platform to professionals and people who have full-time jobs to display their talent in performing and visual arts. The play Sunshine Boys was originally set in New York City in the Sixties, and directed by Neil Simon. It was then adapted by corporate lawyer Percival Billimoria (who, himself, stars in the play) to contemporary India, featuringu00a0 a Mumbai chawl.
The play stars Dr Sanjeev Johri as Gurvinder Galgotia and Percival Billimoria as Fali Daruvala two theatre friends who part ways due to Guri's retirement, which leaves Fali bitter and lonely. When Fali's nephew persuades the pair to come together once again after 11 years, the old resentments and idiosyncrasies surface with a vengeance leading to a hilarious comedy of mismatched expectations. Other castu00a0 includes Pranav Thakur, Chandani Mehra and Supriya Shukla.
Noble thought
"Working with a group of people who are not professional actors has its own advantages. For all of us, it is a passion that comes together which inevitably leads to bringing out our best,"says Billimoria, director. All proceeds from the play will go to the organisation 'Cankidsu2026Kidscan' which works with children who have cancer, and extends support to their families.
