New Delhi: The Supreme Court is likely to hear later on Friday the centre's suggestion to hold NEET in one go -- on July 24 -- as it would be difficult for students not proficient in English to appear in the exam.

An apex court bench headed by Justice Anil R. Dave said the court would consider hearing the matter later.

Dave's ruling came after Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi told the bench that to expect the students who have done schooling in their respective regional languages to prepare and appear for the NEET -- to be held on May 1 -- would be discriminatory.

The CBSE is conducting the NEET (National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test) in the current year only in English and Hindi.

Rohatgi also suggested that court allow the exams being conducted by the state governments along with the NEET for this year.

Saying that the matter can only be considered by the bench comprising himself, Justice Shiva Kirti Singh and Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel, Justice Dave asked the attorney general to give the suggestion to the court and it would be considered when the benche assembles.

The court was urged that if there was any difficulty in the bench sitting on Friday, then the hearing could take place on Saturday (April 30) as it involved the future of lakhs of students.
