Thane: A 20-year-old youth, who had been missing from Digha in the district since May, was allegedly murdered over a dispute and his decapitated body was buried on a hillock, police said today.
According to police, the torso of the victim, Shabbir Shaikh, was exhumed from the hillock in Hilton Pada locality at Digha in Navi Mumbai on Tuesday.
Police had started investigations into the matter, after the mother of another youth Suhail Qureshi, who had gone missing at the same time, filed a missing person's report with the police for her son, DCP Crime Parag Manere told a news conference.
During the probe, police nabbed two youths from Digha identified as Dipak alias Sam Walmiki and Mohammad Choudhari alias Babu.
"During the interrogation, the duo revealed that Walmiki was in love with Shabbir's sister. They had a tiff over the issue as Shabbir opposed Walmiki's move. As a result of this, the arrested duo, along with their friends, beheaded Shabbir and buried his torso in the hillock and threw the head in the nearby lake," police said.
The police exhumed the torso yesterday, while the head is yet to be traced.
The whereabouts of Suhail were not yet known, police said.
A case has been registered in this regard and further investigation was on, police added.
