It was like an instant rewind to our childhood, brimming with stories of Noddy and Winnie The Pooh. The happy colours at South Mumbai's Balloon Basket store triggered them off. Tucked away in a little corner of Colaba, off the main Causeway, is a one-stop shop bursting with balloon bouquets of all shapes, sizes and colours.

Champagne Candles
Sisters-in-law Jayshree Raniwala and Shivani Patodia put their fascination with party decor to good use, and turned entrepreneurs.
"We got in touch with American firms that manufactured specialised balloons, and soon developed a strong enough clientele base to set up store, says 39 year-old Raniwala. The two women cater for birthday parties, baby showers and bachelorette dos.
A quick walk-through the shop reveals the wares they offer. The Mixed Bag of balloons comes stuffed with picture balloons, light balloons, and the classic balloon-within-a-balloon.
But our vote for best balloon goes to the Singing Balloons. These croon the same track over and over, a 100 times to be exact.
The stock at Balloon Basket also includes a selection of candles; the most exotic is the champagne bottle-shaped candle. You don't have to uncork it. Just light it.
Orders needs to be placed a day in advance. The balloon package starts at Rs 500.
