The curious case of the missing garden

The newly-opened eatery at Sadashiv Peth impresses you with its range of food and easy-on-the-pocket dining experience. but we are still searching for the "garden" in its premises...

Located on the busy Sadashiv Peth is the latest entrant to the city's gastronomic circuit. The garden restaurant offers satiating but affordable Indian and Chinese dishes.

Ambience: It is an ideal place to head to with your pals or for a family dinner. The spacious interiors, subdued lighting and elegant wooden furniture transport you to another place and time, that is if you don't mind the Bollywood numbers playing in the background. You can opt for sitting in the open-air and enjoy the breezy evening or sit indoors for a formal cozy dinner. Though, it claims to be a "garden" restaurant, there is barely the hint of a garden and the only facility you get is to dine outdoors.

We tried: For a change, this eatery spoilt us for choice thanks to the variety of dishes available. We ultimately had to seek the help of the manager. We began our meal with the Chicken Tikka (Rs 90) which consisted of succulent, spicy red chicken pieces marinated in yogurt and spices, baked in the tandoor and served garnished with onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, coriander and pepper. It was finger-licking good and was followed by an equally brilliant dish of Veg Crispy (Rs 70), which included freshly cut veggies, tossed crisply in Chinese sauce.

For the main course, we opted for the Methi Malai Mutter (Rs 90) and Roti (Rs 8) along with Prawn Curry (Rs 130). The Methi Malai Mutter tasted delicious and the best part was that you could actually feel the smoothness of the cream when you dipped the roti in the thick malai which had a hint of ginger and garlic. The Prawn Curry had medium-sized prawns sautu00e9ed in a good amount of curry leaves in red gravy. The dish could have been a great choice had there been fewer curry leaves, which sadly overpowered the taste. Skip this dish and instead, go for the Tawa Surmai (Rs 130), which is spicy and includes two tender pieces of Surmai dipped in spices and garnished with coriander.

Service: The attendants are eager to help you decide from the bevy of dishes and are constantly at your beck and call. Overall, the eatery succeeds in giving you a friendly and warm vibe.
