Just a fortnight ago, JD(S) Bangalore city corporator Mohammad Ali had had ample security cover. However, it was withdrawn after the police filed the Goonda Act against him, against which, he had also gotten anticipatory bail. But luck, was not his side.
The making:u00a0 Pailwan, a rowdy, had planned to kill Ali, and sought
protection from Tanveer, Ali's boss. Eventually, Pailwan and Tanveer
joined hands and conspired to kill Ali. But when Ali realised this, he broke
off and formed his own gang
Ali (35), who had over 15 criminal cases against him, was chased and shot dead at around 11.30 am yesterday at Yarabnagar in Banashankari.
History of crimes
According to the police, his attackers came on two wheelers when Ali was going to a saloon after meeting some people in a Masjid. Ali had four cases pending against him, and was acquitted in 11 cases. These include three murders, five half murders and extortion, and countless other crimes.l Ali's body has been shifted to KIMS hospital for post mortem.
Turning point
Around 10 years ago, Ali was considered to be the right hand man for the notorious Tanveer, archrival of Ishtiyak Pailwan, another underworld biggie. Later, Ali broke off and formed his own gang. Soon, he gained notoriety, and was in and out of jail many times. Interestingly, he filed a nomination, and won.u00a0
Ali was not only involved in real estate crimes, but also in sand mafia, sources said. Sand mafia. "Sand business is the biggest mafia in Bangalore, and the existing crime lords were unhappy with Ali's involvement in it, so the police suspect them as well," said a source.
South Bangalore Deputy Police Commissioner Sonia Narang said, "It is too early to say who was behind this." But city commissioner Shankar Bidari said at the spot, "We have got some clues about the accused, which will soon be revealed."

This is the third murder of a corporator in the city in the last 15 years. In 2000, Venkatachala, corporator from Azad Nagar was killed over property issue. In 2005, Shaila, corporator from Hombegouda Nagar killed by her rivals. |
