Man commuting in an autorickshaw is drugged, robbed and left in a park

A HOSPITAL employee was drugged and robbed of his belongings, his shoes even, by an autorickshaw driver and his associate in Madivala last Sunday.

The victim, Partha Sarathy Mahapatra, 27, manager at St John's Hospital, boarded the autorickshaw from Forum Mall.

"The driver agreed to drop me home for Rs 20," Mahapatra told the police, adding that he had had a bottle of beer before heading home.

"They took my laptop, my wallet containing an ATM card, driving licence and Rs 21,000 in cash," Mahapatra told the police. "They even took the shaving set, deodorants and toilet soap that I bought from the mall before getting into the autorickshaw," he added. They didn't spare his shoes either.

According to police, Mahapatra may have been drugged or knocked off with chloroform. A police officer investigating the case said this was an old technique that was gaining popularity of late.
