Sound system manufacturers in city complain of loss of business as mandals go for cheaper Chinese products

With the festivals lined up one after another, sound equipment manufacturers who should be happy around this time, seem to disapprove the current trends in the market. Manufacturers who are trying to come to terms with the police over the restricted use of speakers claim that they are forced to take to other business ventures after facing losses over Mandals opting for cheap-low-quality Chinese products.u00a0

Devendra Walkar a speaker manufacturer told MiD Day, "Mandals are aware of the police restrictions on the minimum number of speakers, so this year they are sticking to fewer speaker boxes. It's a great loss for manufactures like us who have invested in this business. Adding to our problems, these days markets are flooded with low quality Chinese products like speaker boxes, amplifiers, microphones because of which 60 per cent of our business is being hampered."

Highlighting the cheap durability of Chinese speakers, Vasu Walvekar another manufacturer from Guruvar Peth said, "Chinese products are in demand only because they are cheaper, but buyers do not take into consideration the recurrent expenses on the repairing them later."

Bandu Walvekar another speaker manufacturer said that smaller time players who rent out their sound systems to the Ganesh Mandals are now approaching manufacturers to take back the goods sold to them. Walvekar told MiD DAY: "Those who do not want to invest on good sound systems opt for low quality Chinese products which can be used and thrown later."

Sound equipment manufacturers claim that not just mandals, but DJ's who use professional sound systems, are turning to Chinese products. DJ Stash said, "Music equipment like the Medi controller come cheaper when it's China-made. It's economical and therefore a preferred choice."
