Traffic rules violators would have to be extra cautious now as the Delhi traffic police has doubled the strength of its patrol vehicles.

Delhi Police Commissioner Y S Dadwal on Monday flagged off the fleet of 200 new motorcycles and 50 multi-tasking PCR vans which will take the fleet of bikes to 410 and PCR vans to 100.

"The additional vehicles would strengthen the traffic patrol scheme started last year. We would like to further raise the number of bikes and PCR vans," Dadwal said.

"However, we want the citizens to follow traffic rules as a matter of habit and not by force," the Commissioner added.

The move would enhance the mobility of traffic policemen. Traffic cops on bike and PCR vans would replace those standing at intersections. The new vehicles would help them chase and prosecute offenders and regulate traffic in a better way.
