In a bid to curb irregularities and misuse of power, authorities of the traffic police department yesterday decided to withdraw powers of lower constabulary, including police constable and police naik, for issuance of receipt after confiscation oflicences.
As per the latest directives, henceforth, only the traffic officer of the rank of a police inspector, API or a head constable would be eligible to issue the temporary license (the receipt/L-Temp) to offenders.u00a0

“There have been complaints from citizens over issuance of L-Temp and fining the person. Also, several have complained about the misuse of the power given to the traffic personnel. So to curb this evident problem, we have now decided to withdraw the authority given to traffic constables and naiks to issue L-Temp,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Vishwas Pandhare said.
Pandhare said that with this move, traffic constables and naiks would now be able to concentrate on regulating traffic movement.
He added that the decision was taken after the police commissioner issued a directive stating that emphasis should be on regulation and enforcement of laws rather than fines.u00a0
