Tragedy struck on the second day of the Road Safety Week claiming one life and leaving two injured in an accident involving two cars near Urse toll plaza at 7.45 am on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway yesterday

The deceased has been identified as VP Gopal (55), who worked as an officer with Atlas Copco in Kasarwadi, while the injured have been identified as Rochak Kohli and his wife Dipti Kohli, residents of Sector 27 in Nigdi.u00a0

Gopal died while being taken to hospital. The Kohlis have been admitted to private hospital in Nigdi, where doctor informed that they are in critical condition.

The driver of the Toyota that Gopak was in, lost control after a tyre burst. The car rammed into a road divider, jumped over it and was hit by the Santro car, in which the Kohli family were travelling.

Pune Rural SP, Manoj Kumar Lohia, said that Gopal was in the Toyota car at the time of the accident, while the Kohli husband and wife were travelling in a Santro. “One of tyres of Toyota car burst, after which the car driver lost control and jumped onto the wrong side, leading to the accident,” Lohia said.u00a0
