Seven people get injured as 10 bogies get derailed near Jejuri railway station

Seven were injured when 10 bogies of the Mysore-Ajmer Express got derailed near Jejuri railway station on the Pune-Satara section of the Central Railway at around 6.40 pm yesterday. Locals residing near the accident spot rushed to the site to help those trapped inside the derailed compartments.

According to railway officials, out of the seven injured, four have been admitted to a hospital in Jejuri, while three have been admitted to a private clinic in Magarpatta, Pune. The condition of those injured is reported to
be stable.

Speaking about the accident, Arjun Mane, an eye-witnesses who was among the first few people who reached the site, told MiD DAY, "The impact of the accident was so powerful that two bogies came on top of each other while four bogies tilted on a side."

Another eyewitnesses claimed that incessant rains and poor visibility due to lack of electricity stalled up the rescue operations. He, however, added that soon generators were arranged to speed up the rescue operation.

Meanwhile, Y K Singh, the PRO of Pune railway division, said that the tracks would be repaired through the night and train traffic will be regularised by this morning. The accident effected movement of the Sahyadri Express and Mahalaxmi-Goa Express on the Kolhapur section.
