The youth was on his motorbike with two friends when they suddenly crashed into a car outside his college in Hinjewadi
A 16-year-old Pune-based student died in a Mumbai hospital on Wednesday morning, one week after he and two of his friends were injured in a horrifying accident in Hinjewadi.
The deceased — identified as Sunny Panchal, a first-year student at Balaji Law College in Hinjewadi — was on his bike outside his college on August 13, with two other friends also sitting behind, riding triples. He was riding the bike rashly, trying to impress a girl, when they crashed into a car.
All three were seriously injured and were admitted to the nearest hospital. Panchal had severe head injuries and his parents moved him to Mumbai, where he was admitted at Phoenix Hospital in Borivli (West). He eventually succumbed to his injuries, however, and passed away on Wednesday, a week after the accident.
The Hinjewadi police said, “Panchal was riding his bike outside his college in Hinjewadi on the morning of August 13. He and his two friends were driving rashly to impress a college girl. They suddenly collided with a car, and the three of them were seriously injured and admitted to the nearest hospital. Panchal suffered serious head injuries and his parents took him to Mumbai.”
Gopal Bhosle, PSI of Borivli police station, said, “Panchal has been named in a rash driving case registered at the Hinjewadi police station in Pune. He was underage and didn’t have a driving licence. We have sent his dead body for post-mortem and will later give his body to his parents.”
