No suicide note found from spot say cops; the wedding was to take place next January
A former executive of a marketing company allegedly jumped to her death from the terrace of a six-storey residential building in Malad (W) yesterday. The 25-year-old woman identified as Smriti Puri was to have an arranged marriage, and the wedding date was fixed for January 17 next year. She had only recently resigned from her job after she got engaged two months back.

With no suicide note left behind, police are trying to ascertain the reasons behind the death. According to the police, Smriti took the extreme step after her father had gone for a pooja at a nearby temple in the morning. With one of her sisters asleep and the other at work, Smriti went to the A-wing of her building terrace and leapt from there. Her mother is in America shopping for her wedding. Police haven’t interrogated the family yet, but have taken initial statements of her father and the two sisters.
Smriti father told the cops, that after entertaining guests the night before, the deceased had gone to bed. She woke up at around 8.30 am and went to the terrace and then leapt to her death. Cops say they are investigating all angles such as, whether she was unhappy with the proposed marriage or whether she was in a relationship with another person.
“The reason behind her death is unknown, and investigations are on. There was no suicide note found from the spot,” said Raghunath Bagul, senior police inspector with Bangur Nagar police station. Smriti has two sisters, while her father Ajay Puri has a business in Gujarat and had come to the city on August 5 for a 15-day holiday. u00a0
