UP MLA's brothers held for rape attempt

Saddam Rana and Shahbez Rana, brothers of expelled Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) legislator Shahnawaz Rana, were on Saturday sent to 14 days judicial custody for attempting to rape two Delhi girls in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district.

The victims, along with two male friends, were returning from Dehradun to their homes in east Delhi when the incident took place at a highway petrol pump on June 21.

The girls were dragged out of the car and molested and their male friends were beaten up, police said. Two vehicles and the weapon used in the crime have been recovered from Saddam and Shahbez, police added.
