Sanjay Vir Singh, who was student, lecturer, and registrar all at the same time, is unceremoniously told to return to the police department

The IPS officer has been transferred to the police training school in Channapatna, a source said. The transfer was effected after MiD DAY exposed his unethical triple role.

MiD DAY had published a series of reports about how he had violated the statutes to pursue an MBA course. He wrote his exams, while he was the custodian of the records of the university. In other words, he was to oversee the exams, but he had no qualms about being a student himself.

A registrar is also given responsibility for answer sheets. Singh had lied to draw a salary as a guest lecturer in the same department. He had signed the attendance register as a guest lecturer and received Rs 250 a lecture.
The pay bill said he had drawn at least Rs 5,000 a month in that capacity.

He had also declared that he had no bank account, while his salary for registrar was being remitted to his SBM account.

MiD DAY had even caught him on camera when he was writing his exam in January. He sat for papers of third and fourth semesters and passed in all subjects with first class marks.

Following our reports, Vice Chancellor Dr N Prabhudev had written to the government to take action against Singh and specifically to send him back to the police department from where he had been sent to the university.

Singh's proximity to BJP national leaders such as Rajnath Singh had reportedly protected him. Even Higher Education Minister Aravind Limbavali had expressed his helplessness in taking action against Singh.

"It was very difficult to move him out," said a highly placed source in the university. "It was a long drawn battle and I think the end result is the victory of people fighting for the credibility of the university."u00a0

However, L Vasudeva-murthy, former academic council member, said lots more remained to be unearthed in the university. "It took almost eight months to move him out even when there was ample evidence about his irregularities. And this only shows how difficult it is to clean up the rotten system."

When MiD DAY called, Singh just said he had been expecting this transfer. "Thanks for your co-operation," he remarked, sarcastically.

He also said he wanted to be relieved of his duties as early as possible, and would be happy to join the police department, which he liked.
