For the first time in the history of University of Pune (UoP), its authorities will be signing separate bilateral agreements with two top ranking international universities from the US. The Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) are in the final stage.
The endeavour was a part of the Obama-Singh 21st Century Knowledge Initiative, which was announced by the US and Indian governments to strengthen collaboration and build partnerships between institutions of higher education in the two countries.

UoP Vice-Chancellor Dr W N Gade recently visited the two varsities. Dr Gade said he quite confident about the deal and confirmed that the new era of knowledge sharing between the UoP and the US universities would start soon.
“The state had recently organised a special workshop for senior academicians in the country at Harvard University. I got an opportunity to participate in it as well. At that time, I visited Penn State and Indiana universities and had fruitful discussions with their managements,” Dr Gade said.
He said the UoP and the US varsities had agreed in principle, and the final procedure would be completed before November.
“I am truly satisfied as these MoUs are going under Obama-Singh knowledge initiative. These agreements include student exchange, faculty exchange and new technological changes happening in the higher education sector,” Dr Gade said.
While the Penn State University is renowned for offering quality engineering and education faculties, the Indiana University is known to have quality professors for social sciences and engineering course.
