End of tenure
“As per the policy of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) every mayor gets a term of 15 months. My time was up two months ago, but due to some reasons the procedure of resignation was postponed. But finally I have submitted my papers to municipal commissioner Mahesh Pathak and secretary Sunil Parkhe,” said Bankar.

“The mayor’s resignation has been accepted. But till the successor’s appointment, Bankar will officiate as the first citizen. The resignation will be presented before the four members of the standing committee. These members will send an official copy to the divisional commissioner, and then an election for the post will be conducted,” said Parkhe.

Meanwhile, Bankar gave a synopsis of the work during her tenure. “I got the opportunity because of our leader Sharad Pawar’s decision to give 50 per cent reservation for women candidates. I am very happy that during my 17-month tenure many projects like Bhama Askhed, Metro, and flyovers at Swargate, Balaji Nagar and Engineering College chowk got approval. The civic body also bagged many awards, especially for waste management.” The mayor’s post is reserved for female candidates from OBC category.
