Ida Munne Siddique (26), a fake tantrik from Ghaziabad, and his accomplice Naushad Mallik (22), tried to cheat Mukesh Trivedi (30) who went to him on Tuesday. Trivedi's cousin Sachin Kore had accompanied him to Ida's rented room near Deccan Bus Stand.
Ida mesmerised Trivedi by enacting a trick using a pot. It was filled with sodium and other material, which caused a minor blast-like effect when flowers were flung into it. Then Ida told Mukesh that an evil spirit had overpowered him, which came in the way of his marriage.
Baba's jalwa
Repeating the trick, Ida chanted names of various animals that could be sacrificed. But when he said 'camel', the pot shook.
He did this using a string, which could not be spotted, as the room was dimly lit. The matka shook again when Ida muttered that each camel would cost Rs 30,000. Trivedi, who earlier agreed to pay the whopping sum, became suspicious and immediately contacted social activist Harun Mulani. They plotted to launch a sting operation with the help of the Deccan police.

Sachin called the baba and agreed to pay Rs 15, 000 as an initial token. Ida answered, "Jo bhi hai, leke aao. Baki ke baad mein do."
The cops jotted down the details of the currency notes that would be handed to Ida and caught him red-handed on Wednesday as he accepted the cash for the sacrifice later.u00a0 ACP Savita Turekar, who arrested the duo, said, "We are investigating whether the two have cheated others in Pune or outside the city."
Investigations have revealed that Ida came to Pune two weeks ago. He claims to have gained tantrik knowledge from Ajmer Sharif and also that around nine people visit him daily.
