A 29-year-old Maoist, wanted in at least 30 cases including triggering blasts and killing police personnel, surrendered before the East Godavari police in Andhra Pradesh, an official said. Mutha Rai alias Bheerayya was an active member of the RPC Dalam in Malkangiri area of the Andhra-Odisha special zonal committee.
He turned himself in before East Godavari district superintendent of police. Bheerayya had left the Dalam recently and was working as a welder in Chennai, an official said. "However, on the advice of his wife and other family members, Bheerayya decided to surrender with an intention to join the mainstream," district SP Vishal Gunni said.
The police officer said he would request the district collector to award Rs 25,000 towards immediate assistance to Bheerayya.
