The word "gypsy" conjures images of nomadic people who wander from place to place. But this Monday, two ethnically gypsy musicians from Hungary will dispel myths and showcase the best of Western Classical music.

Czardas-Andras Suki Senior and his Gypsy Band are a renowned band from Budapest and he will be performing on the violin with his son Andras Suki Junior on the piano. The musicians are visiting India for the first time.

The event has been organised by the Poona Music Society in association with The Hungarian Information and Cultural Centre. Jehanghir Batiwala, who is the driving force behind the organisation dispels myths about the musicians. "These are not gypsies per se. They are talented musicians from Hungary and it is a rare event to have musicians from that country come over. Ethnically, they are gypsies and the term refers to the tribe that had its origins in India and migrated to Europe."

Andras Suki Senior was born in Hungry Tu00f6ru00f6kszentmiklu00f3s in Hungary. He was only 10 years old when he studied with the world famous Rajko Orchestra under the legendary teacher Gyula Farkas. He has won several prizes and has performed all over the world from America to Asia. Andras Suki Junior was born in Budapest and got his passion for gypsy music from his father. His mother introduced him to classical music at the age of five and he renounced being a gypsy violinist and instead became a pianist. Since February 2001, he has been the Editor of the Classical Music channel of Radio C and has introduced classical music to several listeners.

"We are hoping that the city responds well to this kind of music. On an average, we organise three concerts a month and we manage to have a full hall as well," adds Batiwala.

You can catch the duo performing Chopin's Scherzo in B flat minor, Haydn's Andante and variations in F minor as well as Bartu00f3k's Evening in Transylvania.

At: Mazda Hall.
On: November 23, from 7 pm onwards
Entry: Free
