Thanks to a pipeline leak, tons of water go waste at Bandra for more than a year
While there is a drought in the state, tons of water is being wasted for more than a year every morning at the Kherwadi area in Bandra (East), thanks to a leak in the pipeline. Despite repeated complaints to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) by the local shopkeepers, the pipe hasn’t been fixed.

The area, which is surrounded by more than 1,000 shops, is close to Bandra station that is used by lakhs of commuters daily. Locals have also repeatedly complained about the unclean gutters in the vicinity.
Anoop Chheda, who owns a shop at Kherwadi, said, “The BMC has failed miserably in repairing this water pipeline. A few months back, officers inspected the site and also carried out repairs. But after a few days the same problem started again and there was flooding in our area. A year back the gutters were at least cleaned but now even they are in a bad shape which is a cause of concern for us.”
Shailesh Jain, another shop owner, said, “I am fed up of complaining to the ward officer. I even carried out a signature campaign to prove that the leaked pipeline and water flooding is causing problems for us. But the corporation is least concerned about changing this pipeline. The officers should realise the importance of water. After all, this water can’t be reused in anyway.”
However, when contacted, MD Pimpale, H East ward officer, said, “We will look into this matter seriously and fix the pipeline at the earliest.”u00a0
