Malad's latest sports bar scores high on ambience, offers and service; food will need to play catch-up however
It was a weeknight, and we are greeted by a black signboard outside a popular electronics megastore in Malad that posed an interesting question to passersby -- Are You Ready To Score? Without thinking twice, we went with an emphatic yes and made our way to Score Sports Bar And Grill.
As we stepped in, music from the '80s filled the room; Cyndi Lauper screeching Girls Just Want To Have Fun seemed suitably apt. Looking around, we spotted a woman matching her pool playing skills with her male friends, while another seemed at ease, playing a game of basketball with her companions, while sipping from her cocktail in between breaks. Now here's a space where gender equations could be settled over either a glass of beer or a game of darts.
Gender notions sorted, we noticed that Score has a lot to keep everyone happy, at least when it came to the ambience and offers. They earned extra points since every table had a screen, so you don't miss out on any moment of the live sporting action. So you can forget about craning your neck to get a slice of the soccer action around a single giant screen.
If sporting action doesn't interest you, we suggest you take over the Playstation or the pool table nearby.u00a0 The good news is that you can try your hand at basketball or darts for no extra charge while you need to shell out only 100 bucks to play pool or get access to the PlayStation.
After all the ringside action, we turned our attention to the menu. The list of beverages left us spoilt for choice. The staff will even customise your drinks according to your taste. In keeping with our preference for sweet drinks, our server recommended Apple Snow (Rs 200), which had a chocolate-y flavour, while the Fruit Punch (Rs 200) was refreshing.
You could drop in during Happy Hours on Monday from 4 pm to 1 am and Tuesday to Sunday from 4 pm to 8 pm, and avail of a buy-one-get-one-free offer on all house brands.
The menu included a range of fast food, including burgers, pizzas, finger foods and a mix of Italian, Indian, Mexican and Continental fare, with grills on offer. We tried the Mexican Style Cottage Cheese (Rs 175). It didn't get our vote, as it was essentially cubes of paneer served with salsa sauce as a topping. The salsa sauce was a tad sweet, while the paneer was chewy.
Their winner was the Prawn and Calamari Ajilo (Rs 225), which was a dish of prawns tossed in olive oil, garlic, chilli and lemon juice; it worked well since the combination of flavours came together rather nicely.u00a0 As far as the Arrabiata Pasta (Rs 225) was concerned, it could have done with less basil. Throughout our time at Score, we noticed that despite having a lot going on in various sections, the service never really suffered. Throw in a few more brownie points in the bag!
