The GUIDE shines the spotlight on the Marathi play Geli Ekvis Varsha that deals with the plight of 21-year old youth at the crossroads of life

Why are the 20s so painful?

The Natak Company was formed by a bunch of enthusiastic free-spirited youngsters who have been active on the city's thespian scene. Their latest production is Geli Ekvis Varsha, which is being staged on a larger scale than their earlier plays. Their claim to fame lies in the fact that their plays are largely unusual and experimental and the focus is on giving the audience something to think.

Geli Ekvis Varsha literally translates into "Over the last 21 years". It reflects the pertinent issues that youngsters face today such as insecurity, easy access to money, cell phones, drugs, the impact of social networking sites such as Orkut and Facebook, their relationships, ethics, parental pressure and sex. The thoughts are culled from the minds of 21 year-olds and the storyline is that of a youngster who finally goes to a reality show. Music composer Gandhaar Sangoram, states, "We deal with issues that the current generation is grappling with. Though, there is a lot of talk of India being a young country, no one tries to understand the youth and the problems they face."

The play is written by Dharmakirti Sumant and the cast includes Amey Wagh, Siddharth Menon, Sayalee Phatak and Manali Bibikar.

With milestone plays like Cycle, Dalan, Zaade Laawnaara Manus and Don Shoor to their credit, they are hoping to strike gold this time as well. "We are all excited and looking forward to the audience reaction," smiles Rajwade.u00a0
