The Delhi Airport officials had anxious moments throughout the day on Wednesday. The first in schedule, as reported by MiD DAY, Pakistan International Airways flight was excluded as the inaugural flight but the replacement New York- New Delhi flight, which had to make the first touch down at T3, got delayed by half an hour.
However, another Air India flight reached in the meantime from Tokyo and landed at 4:55 pm. The scheduled first flight that was to land at the new terminal, AI 102 from New York, reached Delhi at 5:14 pm.
They had barely come to terms with this but soon another problem started and theu00a0 radar went blank, which disrupted operations for the next two hours.
Check-in for the first flight from T3 to Dubai opened at 2.50 pm and fliers were greeted with chocolates and sweets. Sources said, the passengers had problems at immigration counters and the conveyor belt also developed a minor glitch.
"Interiors are very good. But why cannot they do something about the debris lying here and there outside the terminal," said VK Sharma who had flown in from New York.
The passengers also complained about lack of signages and guiding information.
The opening of terminal also saw protests from the drivers of black and yellow taxis. The drivers alleged that DIAL had not put adequate number of pre-paid booths inside as well as outside the terminal building.
"We had six counters at the old terminal, but here DIAL had put just one, that too, inside the building. Once a passenger is out, he could not enter again to get a pre-paid slip. How will the taxi drivers survive?" asked a taxi union leader.
