"I work in a private company in Haridwar, and I came to Noida to meet my sister-in-law. When I was passing through Sector 16, two cops stopped me, thrashed me and ripped off my cloths," Preeti told MiD DAY.
According to doctors at the hospital, Preeti was shocked when she saw cops around her and was trying to hide from them. Seeing this behaviour the doctors told the police personnel in uniform to get out of her sight.
"Her behaviour is unstable and it seems like she is mentally challenged. She started shouting and was very scared when cops began questioning her," said a doctor at the district hospital in Bareilly.
The police have launched a probe but they're not sure about the victim's mental status. "We are investigating the case and we are questioning each policeman who was in that area at the time of the incident. But the victim's mental status appears to be unstable. She can't even give us her address.
So far we have been unable to confirm whether she lives in Haridwar. She had been seen roaming around in different sectors of Noida on the day of the incident. We can't even find her in-laws' house in the area," said A K Singh, SSP Noida.
The woman has been kept at the district hospital until the police are able to locate her family members.
