According to local eyewitness Mahesh Kantaria, he spotted the body in the nullah at around 7 am. Kantaria said, “I first saw two legs sticking out of the nullah. I was a bit terrified; I went a little ahead and was shocked to see the body, which was naked. We called the police, who reached the spot in sometime. The body was not smelling when fetched out.”
Senior PI Arun Chavan of Santacruz police station informed Sunday MiD DAY that the body also bore multiple injury marks to her wrists and other parts of the body.
“We are yet to ascertain the identity of the body. But it appears to be of a woman in her mid-thirties. She is fair and medium-built. There is no other piece of clothing or jewellery to give us further clues. We have registered a case of murder against an unknown person and expect citizens to recognise the photo and come forward to help us with the case” said Chavan.
Investigating officer PI Sunil Kundalkar informed that though the cause of death is obvious from the deep slit on the throat, police are awaiting the post mortem report to ascertain the exact time of the murder and also if there was any sexual assault on the victim.
