If you were looking forward to have a safe and peaceful drive from Aundh to Wakad, then you may have to wait a little longer. PCMC's ambitious project to build a six-lane road from Rajiv Gandhi Bridge (Aundh road) to Ravet is facing certain glitches because of internal issues between the two government bodies.
Because of this, the project has stopped at Section 1 and 2 (Aundh Road to Sai Chowk) since mid-November.
A source working with the project said that the defense authorities will not allow PCMC to continue work until they clear the acquisition price of Rs 32 crore. He added, "We are still at the initial stages of the project, and the work has already come to a halt. Now, no one knows the status of the project."
25% work complete
The project was supposed to finish in one and a half years, and only 25 per cent of work is done in one year. The PCMC is currently negotiating on the price and wants a concession.
Subhash Dumbare, additional commissioner, PCMC said, "Defense authorities have quoted a commercial price rate for the 4-km stretch. We want some concession, as it is a public welfare project and a government-to-government deal. We have sent a proposal to the central government."
Strange ways
Another official from PCMC, on request of anonymity, said that the Civil Hospital, which falls under the same area, has given their land for free. "The defense authorities on the other hand are acting strangely. They want a very high price for the land, which belongs to the government," he said.
Defense public relations officeru00a0 Prashant Pathrabe when contacted said, "I am not aware of this issue, so I will not comment on it."
