Yearning for a spring break?

Even as rain gods are refusing to let winter set in, the new clothing store -- Spring Break at Khar -- is preparing for summer. Stocking hot pants when the weather bureau predicts a chilly winter does seem odd

A bright pair of green hot pants catches your attention as you walk into Spring Break, the new casual clothing store in Khar. They stock a variety of prints in the same pattern, though their collection seems to harbour a vendetta against larger sizes. Spring Break is a humble store off the corner of retail giants like Gabana and Fabindia on Khar Danda Road.

Spring Break is a small, but refreshingly clutter-free, store

The store maybe small enough to take in with a single glance but it is clutter-free and well-stacked. Spring Break strives for a casual wardrobe look and manages quite well. The boys section offers more abundant choices than the girls section with a wide range of casual shirts and trendy shorts, provided you like chequered prints. Their collection also includes tunics for girls and sports T-shirts for guys. Look out for a few quirky T-shirts with slogans inspired from popular television sitcoms. Our favourite was one that reads, "Suit up because tonight will be legendary."

Aimed at a young buyer, the clothes are priced reasonably. Shirts range from Rs 600 to 1,100, T-shirts are priced at Rs 300 to 400 and the hot pants come at Rs 400 a pair.

Surviving until now purely on word of mouth, the footfalls have been light but owner Kunaal Aswani, who we caught up with later promises, "We still have a lot more that we want to do for the store. By December we should have a new range of evening and club wear in place."

At three weeks old, it still has a long way to go but with friendly service and convenient timing (the store is open through the week, from 11 am to 9 pm) we'd like to see this store turning into a favourite with shoppers soon.
