"The MLA has confessed to his involvement in the murder of the PWD engineer in Auraiya district during interrogation in the police remand," Addtional Director General (Law and Order) Brijlal told reporters here.
Brijlal said prima facie investigations have revealed the involvement of the MLA's wife and district panchayat president Vibha Tiwari in destroying evidence in the case.
He said a notice had been served to her to record her statement in the case.
However, "she is still not traceable and we are looking for her," the ADGP said.
The BSP MLA and his supporters allegedly lynched engineer Gupta after he reportedly refused to pay a huge sum to him for the birthday celebrations of Chief Minister Mayawati.
