Youth headed for Greece lands in Pakistan jail

Duped by touts, a youth dreaming of a better life in Greece ended up landing in a Pakistani jail and has been languishing there since, his family claimed.

Jatinder Singh of Kapurthala, who had gone to Abu Dhabi two-years ago for a job, came in contact with some persons who promised to take him to Greece for work, his grandfather told PTI.u00a0

However, instead of taking him to Greece, they abandoned Jatinder on the Iran border from where he was arrested, he said. After 15 days, the Iranian Police left him at the Afghanistan border. From Afghanistan he somehow managed to reach Pakistan, where he was again arrested and lodged in a jail, he claimed.

His family has sought the intervention of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to secure his release and repatriation.

A senior police official said he was not aware of the case, but added that the matter would be investigated on humanitarian grounds.
