The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has made a substantial seizure of 520 kilograms of ganja (cannabis), with an estimated value of Rs 1.04 crore, from a truck located near the border between Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh in Nagpur district. This development was confirmed to PTI by an official announcement on Tuesday.

Acting on credible intelligence, DRI officials stationed in Nagpur initiated the interception of a truck during its transit through the Borkhedi toll booth on Monday morning. Upon conducting a thorough inspection of the vehicle, authorities discovered a concealed compartment located between the driver's cabin and the cargo section of the truck. Inside this hidden cavity, they uncovered a total of 242 packets, containing 520 kilograms of ganja, the report stated.

The estimated value of the seized narcotics is approximately Rs 1.04 crore, making this operation a significant blow to illicit drug trafficking in the region. Two individuals who were travelling in the truck at the time of the interception have been taken into custody under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Investigations into this incident are currently underway as authorities work to unravel the full extent of the drug trafficking network involved. The apprehension of individuals connected to such illegal activities is crucial for curbing the circulation of narcotics and maintaining public safety.

Ambit of DRI

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence plays a pivotal role in combating various forms of economic crimes, including the illegal trade of drugs and narcotics. Their actions are essential in upholding the rule of law and preventing the harmful consequences associated with drug abuse and trafficking.

Cannabis abandoned on the beach

In another incident, the police seized nearly 17 kg of cannabis which was abandoned in Maharashtra's Ratnagiri. According to the reports, 17 kg worth of cannabis was abandoned at the Murud beach in Ratnagiri. The incident came to light after some tourists spotted a bag lying unattended at the beach. Alert tourists then informed the law enforcement personnel.

Promptly, a team from Dapoli taluka rushed to the spot and found narcotic substances in the bag. Upon examination, the police learnt that it was Charas.
