Madhur Bhandarkar, who was in Pune for the promotion of his upcoming film Indu Sarkar on Saturday, faced heavy protests by Congress workers. The party raised objections to the way Indira Gandhi and her family has been portrayed in the film, that is set in the Emergency era. The Congress party members feel that the film shows the Gandhi family in poor light. The Pune City District Congress Committee has warned that if the film is screened in Pune city without the permission of Congress leaders, party members will ensure that the screenings are blocked. Congress leader Ramesh Bagwe, along with city Congress chief were up in arms against the promotion of the film.
Saturday's event was scheduled to happen at a city restaurant, but it was shelved, for fear of opposition. Activities planned at other parts of the city were cancelled too.
