A 16-feet long Burmese python was rescued and released in a forest in Assam on Saturday. In a hair-raising footage shared by news agency ANI, an animal rescuer is seen capturing the python and putting in a bag as a crowd of spectators watched the act


According to the ANI, the python was spotted at Borghat Chapanala area in Nagaon district when it was devouring a goat.  After the python was brought under control, it was released under the supervision of the forest department near the Swang Reserve Forest.



The animal rescuer who captured the python said that it weighed 38 kg. The footage shared by the news agency on Twitter on Sunday got 32,400 views with shocked reactions by netizens in the comments. It garnered close to 1,000 likes and was retweeted more than 100 times.

The Burmese python is considered to be one of the five largest snakes in the world. Earlier it was considered as a subspecies of the Indian python. It was recognised as a separate species in 2009.
