At the 66th Golden Globe Awards held in Los Angeles yesterday, Mumbai stole the show as the world watched. Bollywood made its presence felt on the international stage like never before.

Slumdog Millionaire, a movie shot in Dharavi, swept the Golden Globe with four awards in its kitty. The film won Golden Globes for Best Motion Picture (Drama), Best Director Award for Danny Boyle and Best Screenplay for Simon Beaufoy. But, music composer A R Rahman, who bagged the award for Best Original Score in a Motion Picture, has given India a reason to smile.

Thank you, India

The musician created history by being the first Indian to win this award. Once again, the focus was on India as Rahman dedicated the award to the one billion people back home.

There's more India can cheer for. Not only is most of the film shot in Mumbai, but a large part of its cast is Indian or of Indian origin. Dev Patel and Freida Pinto, the lead pair in the film, have their roots in India and then there is our very own Anil Kapoor, who plays a supporting role in the movie. As Danny Boyle took to stage, it was not just Kapoor who was cheering for him, but almost every film lover in the country.

The Indian connection does not end there. Among Hollywood biggies that were called on to present the awards was our own Shah Rukh Khan.

King Khan was on-stage with Freida Pinto, a fellow Mumbaikar to present the award for Best Motion Picture (Drama), which went to Slumdog of course. He was classy, at his wittiest best as he cracked a few jokes and once again showed why he is the undisputed King of Bollywood. The crowd couldn't stop clapping as Bollywood spun its magic at the awards ceremony.

Just the beginning

What next? Slumdog Millionaire and Bollywood have become the talk of the town. The Oscar nominations on January 22 are eagerly awaited by one and all. India is keeping its fingers crossed, as the Academy is next on our list. Let's hope this is just the beginning.u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0
