A report in this paper has highlighted the anxiety and stress that people, particularly senior citizens, who have taken the first dose of Covaxin are going through. With a stipulated time period of 28 to 42 days, the city seems to have run out of its stock of Covaxin, or is not receiving too much stock and those who have taken the first dose of this vaccine are wondering when they will get the second.

A quote in the report amplified just how difficult the entire vaccine scenario is currently. A man who was battling Coronavirus himself said that he used to make a huge number of phone calls trying to get a Covaxin appointment for his senior citizen mother. Finally, she did get the vaccine but like her frazzled son said it was in the nick of time.
A doctor has said that Covaxin first dose takers must be administered the second dose within the time frame for efficacy. Taking the second dose too late may leave them vulnerable. They may develop a sense of confidence after the second dose not quite knowing that they are vulnerable because of the time lapse and that is dangerous.
Whether this happens or not, it is imperative that the stocks arrive and people take the vaccine in time. It is laughable to see authorities telling people to take the vaccine but a desperate populace has no recourse to the Covaxin jab.
Whatever the reason holding up stocks, must unravel quickly and the dose must arrive here in time. It is unacceptable to put people at this kind of risk, because one cannot get the medicine.
We always say that fighting Covid -19 is a two-way effort. The government and the people must come together. The people have done their bit by taking their first vaccine shot. The government needs to arrange for shot No 2.
