Australian PM Julia Gillard was walking on stage at Sydney’s Customs House on Monday morning to launch a cyber safety initiative when she slipped out of one of her high heels.u00a0As a male guest helped her put it back on, Gillard could be heard telling him “it is a Cinderella moment”.

On the podium with both heels intact, the prime minister explained she had been distracted by seeing how well the event host Melissa Doyle had walked in her high heels.

“I think I thought myself into that moment,” Gillard told the audience. “I was staring at Mel and admiring the way she got up and down these stairs with those big heels. And though I’ve got far more humble heels on, I thought to myself ‘I bet I don’t do that as elegantly’.”

Second time around
This was the second time Gillard has shed a shoe in public.u00a0She lost one on Australia Day this year as she was hustled out of a Canberra restaurant surrounded by Aboriginal protesters.

The shoe was initially posted for sale on eBay but members of the Aboriginal tent embassy returned her missing right-foot navy-blue suede shoe to parliament house days later.u00a0
