Three members of a Pakistani-origin British family, who were on a trip to Pakistan, have been shot dead in what is believed to be honour killing.

Mohammed Yousaf, 51, his wife Parviaz, 49, and their daughter Tania, 21, were killed Thursday when they were on their way to a wedding, The Sun reported Friday.

The killings took place near Pakistan's Jaurah town in Punjab province.

The family, who had been in Britain for the past 30 years, was living in Nelson, Lancs.

Friends of the family feared that the deaths were honour-related. The family had left Pakistan for a wedding, believed to be of their son.

"I know the family well. This incident wasn't just murder, it was an honour issue," Nelson councillor Mohammed Sakib was quoted as saying.

Yousaf's nephew Asjad Mahmood said: "We are still trying to piece together what has happened. We are all in absolute shock."
