An Indian tourist was punched and robbed of Rs 1.50 lakh by a gang of thugs in the beach resort town of Pattaya early this morning

Bangkok: An Indian tourist was punched and robbed of Rs 1.50 lakh by a gang of thugs in the beach resort town of Pattaya early this morning.


A gang of five youths, clad in black clothes, bashed 50-year-old Indian tourist Narender Raju and robbed him of 75,000 baht in cash and his mobile phone.


Raju, who was treated for a broken nose and cut on his head, told police that unidentified men had punched and knocked him down while he was walking back to his hotel, Bangkok Post reported.


Police officials had found Raju on Soi 7 off a road along Pattaya beach in Nong Prue sub-district of Bang Lamung district. Pattaya is highly popular among Indian tourists.

Locals told police that black-clad gang of thugs are often found drinking on the beach and they extort money from passers-by after assaulting them.
