Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi is reportedly writing love songs while he recuperates from an assault that left him with a broken nose and two broken teeth.

Italian media say Berlusconi (73) is working on a new CD of songs with Mariano Apicella, a guitarist who has accompanied him on three albums before, according to the Italian daily Corriere della Serra.

"In 2010, there will be a new record, the fourth, of the musical duo Berlusconi and (guitarist Mariano) Apicelli....," the report said.

Berlusconi, who worked as a cruise ship singer in his youth, first collaborated with his friend Apicelli in 2003.

The pair is reported to have finished eight songs out of 12, which will appear on a CD to be released in the New Year. The new song titles include, There is love, but if I lose you and Stay with me.

However, the title of the album and its cover design remain a top secret. Berlusconi was attacked last month in Milan by a man who is said to have a long history of psychiatric troubles.

The assaulter hit him in the face with a miniature model of the city's cathedral, hurting him badly.
