Pyongyang: Kim Jong-un is not practising what he preaches. While his country is in the middle of an official anti-smoking campaign, the North Korean leader was spotted smoking in public for the first time in around two months.

The state media showed the Supreme Leader with a cigarette in his hand while he was visiting a children’s camp in Pyongyang. He was last seen lighting up on March 15 while attending a test of a North Korean rocket motor.

The sight of Kim smoking is surprising, as the country is in the midst of a “brisk” anti-tobacco campaign, according to its newspaper Rodong Sinmun. in a country which has a large smoking population.

To spread the anti-smoking message, Korean Central TV had also broadcast a 40 minute-long programme entitled “The Extra Quality Favourite Item Threatening Life,’ in which women scolded male smokers, calling them “imbeciles who upset their surroundings,” the BBC reported.
